Violet Evans has never fit in. But when she crosses into the magical realm, she finally starts to feel like she has a place in life. Until she accidentally shuts the portal home, cursing the world with the ever-dark: a sky that stays dark purple all day, with the sun frozen on the horizon, never rising, before shifting to black at night.
Determined to right her wrongs, Violet sets out to reopen the portal. But if she succeeds, what will be waiting for her on the other side? A community that hates her? A life she never truly belonged in? Or something far worse?
